Assemble a Personalized Candy Gift Box for Your Girlfriend

If you're thinking about giving your girlfriend a gift box of candies, then a really cool and thoughtful way to do it would be to design your own special box. This is easy enough. All you need is a nice decorative box (which you can order online or pick up in a craft store) and then the candies. You don't want to just get a bunch of identical candies; you want the box to have some variety. One of the cool things about assembling your own box of candies is that you can select a whole bunch of candies that normally wouldn't be found together in the same box. Below is a selection of some candies you should consider.

Ganache Truffles

If your girlfriend loves chocolate, then she will absolutely love these amazing candies. They are made of two simple things: cream and chocolate. Most of the time the chocolate is dark chocolate. The cream and chocolate are melted together and then left to cool. They are then rolled into small balls. As a finishing touch, most chocolatiers will dust the truffles with cocoa powder.

Tempered Chocolate Truffles

Tempered chocolates are a bit different than regular truffles in that they are "hard" shelled. The ganache is dipped in melted chocolate, and this melted chocolate is then left to cool. Once the chocolate is cool, it creates a hard shell that protects the soft inside. Tempered chocolate truffles can be flavored with anything from raspberry liquor or salt to espresso beans. The hard shell also can be decorated to identity the inside flavor. For instance, a salt truffle might have fleur de sel, and an espresso-flavored truffle might have a single espresso bean adorning the top.

Turkish Delight

These are a fun alternative to a regular jelly-style candy. They originated in the Ottoman Empire and are very popular in the Middle East and surrounding areas (Turkey, Egypt, Greece, and Tunisia). They are bite-size sugar and gel candies that are flavored with anything from lemon oil or rosewater to bergamot oil or mastic (popular in Greece). Turkish delight is very soft and tends to be covered in a powdered sugar. Some varieties will also have nuts (typically pistachios) in the recipe.

Salt-Water Taffy

If your girlfriend loves the ocean, then a fun idea would be to include some salt-water taffy. This taffy isn't really made with salt water, though back in the day that was the urban legend. This is a standard candy from the Jersey Shore. There used to be big stores on the boardwalk where the candy makers would make it in front of the windows for everyone to watch. You can order salt-water taffy online if you don't live near the shore.

Gourmet Caramels

You should also include some really nice gourmet caramels. These are the types that are made with fresh cream and sugar and are soft and luscious. You don't want to get the stale, hard-as-a-rock caramels that you find in supermarket shelves. Gourmet caramels are a super-nice gift. They are a perfect expression of caramel, so if your girlfriend loves things like creme caramel or creme brulée, then these are fun little candies to include.
